DVD; manuals)
Here is a 9- to 12-week small-group study by Andy Langford and Mark

an intentional walk with God that encourages a personal relationship with Jesus
Christ. It targets inquirers, explorers, seekers, and new
church members, and is designed to begin where these adults are on their
spiritual journey. In each two-hour session, participants will share a
meal, watch a short video/DVD segment, engage in meaningful discussion and
reflection, study scripture, explore Christian faith and teachings, and grow in
depth of experience through the small group. In the video segments, Rob
Weber introduces the session topics with lively, informal presentations using
stories and scripture. There is one video/DVD segment of about 15 minutes
for each of the twelve sessions. A short promotional video is included to
help program directors and group leaders present the study to their
congregations and potential participants. Boxed together, the sessions

Give your congregation a wonderful new way to celebrate their lives as a
community of believers in Christ. This foot-pattin', toe-tappin', hand-clappin'
hoedown of a musical retells - in southern vernacular - the Gospels of Matthew
and John for people of today. With lyrics adapted from the work of Dr.
Clarence Jordan of Koinonia Farms and music by the late Harry Chapin, founder of
"World Hunger Year" and composer of such hit songs as "Cat's in
the Cradle" and "Taxi," this video re-creation of the successful
Broadway musical has been praised by theologians and theater-goers alike for its
humor and its reverent treatment of the story of the Christ.

DA VINCI CODE DECEPTION: SOLVING THE 2000-YEAR-OLD MYSTERY.
DVD sh,ad
(approx. 120 min; guides)
Dan Brown's best-selling fiction thriller, "The Da Vinci Code" ignited a
world-wide controversy with his opening statement: "FACT: All descriptions of
artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are
accurate." But everyone wants to know - is the novel really fact or
fiction? Was Jesus really married to
Mary Magdalene? Was she one of his disciples? Did Leonardo da Vinci
try to warn us through his The Last Supper painting? Based on three
scholarly books - The Da Vinci Deception, Breaking the Da Vinci Code,
and Cracking Da Vinci's Code - this program addresses a 2,000-year-old
mystery and sustains viewers' faith in Christianity. Through interviews
with authors and leading experts in theology, archaeology, art history,
philosophy and science, this program answers lingering questions and exposes the
novel's deceptions. Extra bonus features include: additional expert
interviews; tour of monasteries and chapels mentioned in the novel; scientific
analysis of The Last Supper painting; pastor's sermon outline; and
church-wide Bible study for pre-teens, high schoolers, and adults. The
program will satisfy your curiosity, engage your imagination, and provide
insights for strengthening your own faith in biblical Christianity. The
running time is 60 minutes plus 60 minutes of bonus features. Suggested
settings include: a four-week Bible study, Sunday school classes, youth
gatherings and retreats, and small-group study.

DONKEY'S TALE.
vhs pr-ue
Here is a charming rendition of Jesus'
life that comes straight from the donkey's mouth! Moshe the
donkey will delight elementary-age children as he leads them through the events
surrounding Jesus' life. Moshe's
grandfather was there at the manger when the baby Jesus
was born. Grandpa shares the news and wondrous events with the other
donkeys, including Moshe; they then lose track of the baby. Over the
years, Moshe hears reports from various "family" members of times they
have seen Jesus: the flight into Egypt; Jesus at
twelve in the Temple; the wedding feast at Cana. But it isn't until many
years later, when Moshe is enlisted to carry a man through the streets of
Jerusalem, that we finally meet Jesus once again. All ages alike will be
captivated by the live action, beautiful artwork, and exciting soundtrack.
Ideal for Christmas preparation, the resource can also be used during Lent,

Many Christians today live their lives, plan their schedules, and use their
resources completely disconnected from what they say they believe. This
spiritual disconnect can cause stress and problems in our lives.
Foundations presents essential truths of the Christian faith and how these
truths are to be lived out - in our relationships, our character, and our work.
Rather than just teaching doctrinal knowledge these resources, lead by Tom
Holladay and Kay Warren from Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, show
participants how to apply and implement biblical truths every day. Each
Foundations DVD study contains four sessions and looks at one of the
core truths of the Christian faith. NOTE: Leader notes

Virtually all scholars agree that the best place to begin a study of the New
Testament is with the Gospel According to Mark. Here, the Jesus story is
told with a breathless energy and excitement. Here, the basic Gospel
themes are first given expression. Here, Jesus seems to have a freshness
and vitality not yet buried under theological manipulation. Using visual
material from Galilee and Jerusalem, animated maps and charts, art from museums
around the world, and interviews with a diverse group of scholars currently
teaching and writing on Mark, this eight-session video study tackles important
questions in a challenging manner. Scholars include Dr. John Donahue, S.J.,
Dr. Steven Reid, Dr. Fernando Segovia, and Dr. Herman Waetjen. This

Here is a powerful, contemporary overview of the Gospels in seven
15-minute programs. A cast of four men and two women share the role of Christ
in
this innovative interpretation of the Gospel story which is based on the King James
version of the Bible published in 1611. Divided into short dramas, it is a modern
retelling of the life of Christ adapted from the text of all four Gospels: Matthew, Mark,
Luke, and John. The scripts chronicle the main events in the life of Jesus from the
nativity through the ministry to the passion, the resurrection and ascension. The
emphasis of this production is on the narrative and the power of the language. The
actors are dressed in contemporary 1990's clothes - not in the "traditional"
sandals and flowing robes. The power of the Gospel accounts speaks to the heart of
every generation, and culture is vividly portrayed.

There is such a large cast of characters in the many stories of the Bible that
individuality can get lost in the sweep of the narratives. Yet when you

Guide/Books What was spiritual formation like during the time of Jesus? As Scot McKnight points out, the early Christians didn't sing in the choir or go to weekly Bible studies, and yet they matured inwardly in relationship with God as well as outwardly in their relationships with each other. How did this happen? In this series, explore with Scot how the great Shema of the Old Testament was transformed by our Lord into the focal point for spiritual maturity. According to the "Jesus Creed" (found in Mark 12:29-31), loving God and loving others are the greatest commandments. Scot uses biblical characters such as John the Baptist and Peter to explore themes important to every Christian. What are you living for? What has God called you to become? How is God calling you to compassion? What happens when disciples fall? This DVD provides a seven-week study with Scot that is excellent for any high school or adult spiritual formation process. The DVD plus study guide provide lessons on how to mature following the model that Jesus provided for his first disciples. Material extracted from the "Jesus file" includes background on the city of Caesarea, Judas the Galilean's Rebellion, the fortress of Masada, the Pharisees and Sadducees, the Essenes at Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the activities and subsequent execution of John the Baptist. | |||
| Tape 2: Jesus: From carpenter to preacher. | |||
| After King Herod passed away, his successor Antipas turned his attention to Jesus who, like John the Baptist, was also considered a threat. In this program, the "Jesus file" reveals information on Jesus' birth, his parents, his career as a carpenter, his allegedly dissident preaching, and the mixed acceptance and opposition he incited. In addition, the ancient cities of Tiberias, Sebaste, and Bethlehem, along with the fortress-mausoleum of Herodium, are explored. | |||
| Tape 3: Jesus gathers a following. | |||
| This program, based on detailed intelligence from the "Jesus file," focuses on Jesus' recruitment of disciples from fishermen along the Sea of Galilee, his relationship with fellow agitators Simon and Andrew, the growth of his popularity, and his lack of success preaching in Jerusalem - until he raises a man named Lazarus from the dead. This dossier also features archaeological information on a 1,900- year-old fishing boat, the recently discovered village of Bethsaida, and the city of Capernaum and its synagogue. | |||
| Tape 4: Last and first days of Jesus. | |||
| This program investigates Jesus' presence in and around Jerusalem during Passover; his allegedly seditious activities, his subsequent arrest in the garden of Gethsemane, his trial at the palace, and his execution by crucifixion. The remains of the shops of the moneychangers and the great temple itself are also explored. With his death and burial, the "Jesus file" is closed , except for one loop hole: his miraculous resurrection. | |||

JESUS I NEVER KNEW.
kit ad (120 min.)
With over 2,000 years of time, history has masked the real portrait of
Jesus. Now, in this powerful curriculum based on the best-selling, Gold Medallion
Book of the Year, The Jesus I Never Knew, Philip Yancey paints a portrait of Jesus
- both
human and divine. This provocative journey through the Gospels peeled back
stereotypes to give readers a literate and piercingly honest look at the teachings,
person, and life of Jesus of Nazareth. Churches and study groups now can experience
firsthand the dynamics of Yancey's initial church Bible study that grew beyond all
expectations to become the seed of The Jesus I Never Knew. Like his Bible study,
this 14-session curriculum utilizes video clips from well-known and little-known movies
portraying various views of Jesus, as well as video input from the author. The
curriculum includes: a 120-minute video; a Participant's Guide; and a comprehensive
Leader's Guide for conducting powerful sessions with minimal preparation. NOTE: The
book, The Jesus I Never Knew, is available upon request from the Media Resource
Center. This exciting program is designed to get groups of any size actively
involved - thinking, discussing, interacting, and growing as they make life-changing
discoveries about the most compelling, convincing, comforting, challenging, and ultimately
satisfying person anyone can know - Jesus Christ.

Here is a wonderful way to experience the Gospel story anew. Roger
Ezell, an ordained pastor and gifted actor, presents an abbreviated version of the good
news of Jesus "according to Mark" from the New Revised Standard Version.
Using different backgrounds - wastelands and grain fields, pasture lands and vineyards,
lakes and streams, churches and government buildings - Ezell tells Mark's story of
Jesus
from His baptism in the River Jordan to His crucifixion and resurrection in
Jerusalem. The use of diverse settings, plus an original musical score, will change
forever your "hearing" of Mark's Good News.

Marcus Borg's sketch of Jesus is
drawn with five broad strokes, each of which identifies a central characteristic
of Jesus that corresponds to a type of
religious figure known in many cultures: the ecstatic, the healer, the wisdom
teacher, the prophet, and the movement initiator. The most foundational of
these, he says, are Jesus' ecstatic
religious experiences. There are four hours on two videotapes and the
material is easily divided into eight 30-minute viewings.

READING THE GOSPELS WITH JEWISH EYES. vhs
ad (94 min.)
According to Bishop John Shelby Spong, startling new insights emerge
when the Gospels are read from a Jewish perspective - a perspective to which
many Christians may be blind. Viewed this way, the organizing principle
behind the Gospels appears not to be memory, biography or history.
Instead, the key events of Jesus' life seem
to closely follow an orderly cycle of Jewish feasts and rites of passage.
The tape is 94 minutes long. The last 22 minutes are questions and
answers. Divide Spong's presentation into two approximately 36-minute
sessions and treat the questions and answers as a separate session.

SO, WHO IS THIS JESUS?
vhs sh,ad (48 min.)
Two thousand years ago a man was born who changed the course of
history. He was a carpenter. As an adult he never traveled more than
60 miles. He was betrayed by one of his twelve followers and executed for
crimes he did not commit. Today, even in an age of skepticism and
materialism, there are millions of people from all walks of life who
passionately believe in him - and who claim he has radically changed their
lives. His name is familiar to us all - even if only as a swear word.
But who is he? Who is this Jesus? Russell Boulter provides answers
to the question in a down-to-earth, no nonsense style. It has been
specifically designed to help people with no previous knowledge of Jesus to have
a better understanding of who he is. For those who already know Jesus, it
will give them an even greater understanding of Jesus' life and the joy of
knowing him better. Filmed in Israel, the presentation is in three parts:
I. His story had a long preparation; II. His birth and life; and III. Meaning of
it all.

THEY LIKE JESUS BUT NOT THE CHURCH:
RESPONDING TO CULTURE'S OJECTIONS TO CHRISTIANITY.
kit ad (1 DVD,
approx. 130 min)
Guides
Many in today's emerging generation don't like the church. Some are
leaving the church; others never were a part of it. Yet they remain
fascinated with Jesus. Led by
author and pastor Dan Kimball, this six-session small group DVD kit will help
you explore and respond truthfully, caringly, and engagingly to the most common
objections and misunderstandings emerging generations have about the church and
how the church can respond in positive ways. Through interviews with those
who like Jesus but not the church
and teaching by Dan Kimball, this video-based curriculum will help address these
objections. The six sessions, 19 to 28 minutes each, are: 1) Danger of the
Christian Bubble; 2) Is the Church Negative, Judgmental, and Political? 3) Does
the Church Restrict and Oppress Women? 4) Is the Church Homophobic? 5) Do
Christians Arrogantly Think All Other Religions Are Wrong? and 6) Are Christians
Fundamentalists Who Take the Whole Bible Literally? The kit consists of a
DVD, a getting started guide, a participant's guide, a leader's guide, and
sermon outlines for each of the six sessions. Use this resource in Sunday
school, small group settings, retreats, and for evening programs.
NOTE: Kimball's book, They Like
Jesus But Not the Church: Insights from Emerging
Generations, is available UPON REQUEST from the Media Resource
